My name is Peter Little.
I rode the trail last year ,taking my bike with me from Melbourne , Australia.
Well worth the effort, I feel New Zealanders really do not know how lucky they are!! I am still stunned today as to the high quality of the track and general vista. It has to be said that the Otago Central Rail Trail has a unique landscape environment that seems to constantly change --- I am surprised
I did not have any accidents falling of my bike as a result of always looking up and around , everywhere but the track!!
I have every intention of returning to cycle again.
A point of note. Staying in St Bathans overnight was a thrill. I live in a city of 4 million people so staying in a town of 6 people and a dog and 1 street lamp was an unforgettable thrill. I am sure that the rail trail is also about the overall experience of being outside the car and in the environment.
